Yoga Classes

Sierra Yoga is an outdoor yoga organization which includes SUP Yoga, Yoga in the Park, Hiking Yoga, Yoga Campouts Yoga Therapy and Adaptive Yoga. Sierra Yoga believes in combing the beauty of the great outdoors with the power of a yoga practice. By bringing the two together we find a serenity and peace that is more challenging to find indoors. The yoga adventures offered through Sierra Yoga will challenge your fitness ability, encourage you to embrace nature, calm your inner and outer being and connect you to a community of like-minded people.

SUP “stands” for Stand Up Paddleboarding which is a fun sport where the paddler stands on a board similar to a surf board. The paddler and the board are propelled across the top of the water by the use of a long single-bladed paddle. SUP Yoga is just that, yoga on a paddleboard on water. The boards are usually wider then a surf board and are stable enough to practice a full length yoga class varying in many different poses. Sierra Yoga SUP classes take place in the beautiful Eastern Sierra surrounding Mammoth Lakes, at nearby lakes such as June Lake, Grant Lake, Horseshoe, Convict, Crowley and Lake Mary. Classes are a suggested donation of $20.  For privates and private group outings  Contact Sierra Yoga.

Yoga in the Park takes place in Mammoth Lakes, CA at Mammoth Creek Park. Nothing is more relaxing then taking a yoga class in the great outdoors with the mountains in your gaze and the high sierra sun shining on your face. If you’ve been here you know the enchantment of the area. Yoga in the Park is a donation based class (part of the donations go to Disabled Sports of the Eastern Sierra) and is offered all summer long Wednesdays 9am until the week after Labor Day.  Classes are 75 minutes long and are Vinyasa flow style. Creating peace of mind and combining movement and breath with the mountain breeze at 8,000 ft.

Hiking Yoga is fun way to mix up a practice by bringing adventure to yoga. Hiking yoga begins on a mild to moderate 2 mile hike up to McCloud Lake in Mammoth Lakes, CA (park at Horseshoe Lake). Once we arrive at McCloud we spread out our mats on the beach and begin our practice with Mammoth Mountain in our view. Its a glorious way to practice, by warming up the body on the way up, and taking in the breathtaking views as you practice. After our yoga and a snack, we venture back down with gratitude for the beauty around us and a sense of peace. This adventure is offered for private groups only.  Contact Sierra Yoga to set up a day and time.

Yoga Campouts are an adventure not to be missed! Held once a summer in September. The adventure begins at Rock Creek Campground about 30 minutes south of Mammoth Lakes. We arrive before sunset, set up camp after a mediation and introduction and then spend the rest of the evening under the stars, around the campfire. The following morning we’ll set out on a hike where we will venture and find a spot for our yoga practice. The stillness and silence this area offers will bring a calmness and serenity to your practice guaranteed! The rest of day is spent hiking, paddleboarding, exploring, or eating pie at Pie in the Sky (best pie ever) and then meeting back at camp at sunset for a gratitude meditation.  The next morning a sunrise flow and/or Yoga Paddleboard class is available before breaking down camp and calling it an experience.

“Yoga therapy is the use of the techniques of Yoga to create, stimulate, and maintain an optimum state of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health.” -Judith Hanson Lasater, Ph.D   Sierra yoga offers private yoga therapy sessions for an extended time based on the individual’s needs.   We begin with a MEBO (Muscle evaluation and body observation) consultation and then offer a customized yoga plan for the individual.  In this plan we may use yin, restorative, hatha, vinyasa, meditation, pranayama, essential oils and Ayurveda techniques.   Contact Sierra Yoga to set up a consultation.

Element flow is a dynamic flow based on the elements. We will focus on a certain element (water, fire, earth, metal or wood) within each class changing the element with the season. With every element we will talk about and work along the pair of meridian lines that relates to the element using Chinese medicine philosophy. The first part of the class is a flow and ends with yin. All levels welcome.
